Israeli strike injures the son of a Hamas negotiator and results in the deaths of five individuals in Gaza

Israeli air raids in Gaza have resulted in injuries to the son of a Hamas leader, while new attacks have claimed the lives of five Palestinians throughout the territory.

According to Hamas officials, the son of senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya has sustained serious injuries in an Israeli air strike in Gaza City.

On Wednesday, an attack occurred in the Daraj neighborhood, resulting in one fatality and at least nine injuries, according to medical sources.

Azzam al-Hayya, the son of Hamas’s political bureau chief and a significant negotiator in indirect discussions with Israel, was among those who sustained injuries.

Khalil al-Hayya reported that the strike severely injured his son.

The leader of Hamas also confirmed that the individual who lost their life in the attack was Hamza al-Sharbasi.

“The deaths of our sons and the sacrifice of our leaders will not deter us,” al-Hayya stated.

The Israeli authorities have yet to provide a comment regarding the strike.

The assault occurred during a resurgence of Israeli operations throughout Gaza. In a recent attack in the Zeitoun area of northern Gaza City, three family members lost their lives while allegedly attempting to set up a tent near a mosque, as reported by local medics.

A separate raid near al-Mawasi in southern Gaza resulted in the death of Naseem al-Kalazani, who was identified by Palestinian officials as the head of the anti-narcotics force in Khan Younis. Seventeen additional individuals sustained injuries.

Hamas denounced the attacks, characterizing them as a “clear breach” of the ceasefire agreement established last October.

The group stated that the strikes signify “a continuation of the ongoing war” against Palestinians in Gaza.

Gaza’s health ministry reports that hundreds of Palestinians have lost their lives since the announcement of the ceasefire agreement last year.

The recent violence arises as Israel’s security cabinet is said to be contemplating an expansion of military operations following Hamas’s refusal to comply with demands for complete disarmament.

Hamas asserts that conversations regarding weapons must occur within the context of a more comprehensive agreement that encompasses the creation of a Palestinian state and enhanced humanitarian access to Gaza.
