Nicki Minaj’s father’s case for wrongful death ends when the driver settles a civil suit

The driver involved in the hit-and-run that resulted in the death of Nicki Minaj’s father has reached a settlement in the civil lawsuit, bringing an end to a lengthy wrongful death legal battle.

A civil lawsuit concerning the death of Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, has reached a settlement, concluding a legal conflict that arose from a tragic hit-and-run incident five years prior.

Court documents acquired by US media reveal that Carol Maraj, the rapper’s mother, came to an agreement in early March with Charles Polevich, the driver found guilty in relation to the 2021 incident.

Polevich had earlier completed a prison sentence after admitting guilt to fleeing the scene of the accident and altering evidence. In February 2021, he hit 65-year-old Robert Maraj while crossing a road in Long Island, New York, and then fled the scene. Investigators later tracked him down using surveillance footage.

Carol Maraj, who sought compensation for the loss of her husband’s companionship and support, brought forth the wrongful death claim that the settlement addressed.

The case garnered further attention when Polevich sought to subpoena Nicki Minaj for a deposition, allegedly aiming to question her regarding lyrics that reference her childhood in an attempt to contest assertions about the family’s relationship. The move was ultimately abandoned and did not move forward.

The agreement has now been reached, bringing the long-running civil proceedings between the parties to a conclusion.
