Coach Marcelino will depart from Villarreal at the conclusion of the season
Villarreal head coach Marcelino Garcia Toral will depart at the conclusion of the season, even after achieving a second consecutive Champions League qualification, the LaLiga club announced on Monday.
The 60-year-old, who previously managed the team from 2013 to 2016 and successfully guided them back to the Spanish top flight, has led Villarreal more than any other coach, overseeing a total of 298 games across all competitions.
Villarreal currently holds the third position in LaLiga, with four matches left to play, ensuring their place in elite European football for the upcoming season.
Marcelino, who rejoined Villarreal in 2023, achieved victory in the Copa del Rey with Valencia in 2019 and secured the Spanish Super Cup with Athletic Bilbao in 2021. He has been associated with clubs in the English Premier League.
