Travis Kelce and the Chiefs are set to have discussions regarding their future following the Super Bowl
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to have discussions regarding the star tight end’s playing future after Super Bowl LX, as reported by NFL Network on Sunday.
Kelce, 36, is poised to enter free agency next month after completing his two-year, $34.25 million extension this past season.
The Chiefs are said to be eager to bring Kelce back, but the team currently exceeds the projected cap by over $55 million, which is more than $300 million.
Kelce has been discreet regarding his future, yet he enthusiastically welcomed the return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy during a recent “New Heights” podcast. “I can’t wait to see him back in the building, man,” Kelce expressed. “He ranks among my all-time favorite coaches and is also one of my favorite people.” I’ve experienced countless incredible growth moments with him, both as a player and as an individual, and I truly admire him.
The Chiefs’ disappointing 6-11 season concluded quietly, prompting speculation about whether the four-time All-Pro wished to conclude his career in such a manner.
Before the season began, Kelce revealed that he had considered retiring. He mentioned that his life has transformed in various ways since he started dating the world’s biggest pop star, Taylor Swift, to whom he is now engaged.
Last season, Kelce became one of only two players in NFL history, alongside Hall of Fame member Jerry Rice, to achieve at least 12 consecutive seasons with a minimum of 800 receiving yards.
Kelce topped the team with 76 receptions, 851 yards, and five receiving touchdowns, which he shares with Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown.
The player, a three-time Super Bowl champion and 11-time Pro Bowl selection, holds the record for the most receptions (1,080), receiving yards (13,002), and touchdown receptions (82) in Chiefs’ history.
