Nigerian army claims to have killed ten fighters and a Boko Haram commander
Nigerian army announced on Sunday that it had eliminated a high-ranking Boko Haram commander along with 10 other militants in a nighttime operation in northeastern Borno state.
The army confirmed that the leader killed was Abu Khalid, noting that he served as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest.
“According to the army statement, Abu Khalid played a pivotal role in the terrorist hierarchy, overseeing operations and logistics in the Sambisa axis.”
No casualties were reported among its own troops, and they continued to carry out clearance operations throughout the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other recognized hideouts of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the North East region.
Nigeria has faced a prolonged struggle against Boko Haram and its offshoot ISWAP for more than ten years, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions throughout the Lake Chad area.
