The Arrest of Kiefer Sutherland Raises Legal Concerns from the Past
The most recent apprehension contributes to Kiefer’s past legal issues. The “Designated Survivor” star entered a no contest plea to driving while intoxicated in 2007 after failing a field sobriety test.
His penalty for the 2007 violation was 48 days in jail because he had previously been found guilty of DUI in 2004.
Following a benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in 2009, Kiefer headbutted fashion designer Jack McCollough, leading to his arrest for assault.
Following a joint statement from the two men and Kiefer’s public apology, that matter was later withdrawn.
The actor’s relationship with alcohol, which Kiefer has freely discussed in previous interviews, has frequently been connected to these earlier occurrences.
Kiefer Has Openly Discussed His Alcohol Use in the Past
In a 2016 PEOPLE Magazine interview, Kiefer Sutherland discussed how drinking has contributed to challenging times in his life.
According to him, “I was never the guy; if something wasn’t right or wrong in my life, I didn’t go drown my sorrows.”
The movie actor continued, saying, “Going out with my friends and telling stories and having a bunch of drinks is one of the things I love to do,” adding that social drinking frequently resulted in disaster.
“I can also look back on my life and tell you very squarely that the only bad things that have ever happened to me in my life have been because I like to go to bars and have drinks with my friends,” Kiefer said, acknowledging the effects of those decisions.
In conclusion, he said, “I would be lying if I told you that I didn’t feel like I let it get away from me at times.”
