Israel Will Close 37 Aid Organizations in Gaza
37 humanitarian organizations in Gaza and the West Bank have their licenses revoked by Israel under new regulations, citing inadequate worker statistics.
According to newly implemented registration regulations, Israel plans to cancel the licenses of 37 humanitarian organizations that work in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since they did not comply with the standards.
The International Rescue Committee, ActionAid, and the Norwegian Refugee Council are among the well-known international NGOs whose licenses will be stopped on January 1st, and their operations will cease within 60 days. Israel claims that some organizations did not give “complete” personal information on their employees.
Ten nations’ foreign ministers, including the UK, sharply criticized the decision, calling the regulations “unacceptable” and “restrictive.” They cautioned that in Gaza, where conditions are still “catastrophic,” access to vital services, such as healthcare, would be severely impacted.
Humanitarian help continues to come through approved channels including UN organizations and bilateral partners, according to Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs. The ministry underlined that avoiding possible infiltration by terrorists requires worker verification.
Israel’s military organization in charge of Gaza borders, COGAT, stated that the suspended organizations made up just about 1% of all humanitarian deliveries during the current ceasefire. Less than 15% of aid organizations were discovered to have violated the new framework.
The registration regulations prohibit organizations that advocate boycotts, support armed conflict, deny Israel’s legitimacy, or demand international prosecution of Israeli forces. Humanitarian activities in Gaza and the West Bank are “fundamentally jeopardized” by the system, according to the Humanitarian Country Team.
The majority of Gaza’s basic services, like as field hospitals, emergency shelters, water and sanitation, undernourished children’s feeding centers, and vital mine action, are provided by numerous INGOs.
According to Minister Amichai Chikli, “While humanitarian aid is appreciated, using humanitarian frameworks for terrorist purposes is not.” Medical Aid for Palestinians, CARE, and Medico International are among the other organizations impacted.
