Bertrand Traoré was sanctioned following comments about refereeing
Bertrand Traoré’s post-game tantrum has had immediate repercussions. The former Lyon winger publicly chastised the refereeing after Burkina Faso lost to Algeria 1-0 in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The player claims the referee shoved him after the final whistle and has accused officials of “ruining the match.” Such judgments “spoil the competition,” Traoré remarked, acknowledging Algeria’s success on the field.
In response, the Burkina Faso international was fined $10,000 by CAF for making “offensive remarks.” Traoré is still eligible to play in Burkina Faso’s Round of 16 match because no sporting sanctions were applied. Since then, the player has apologized to CAF, ending the incident.
