Trump’s new security strategy is welcomed by the Kremlin, which claims it mostly reflects Russia’s viewpoint

Trump’s national security strategy is praised by the Kremlin, which points out that it supports Russia’s positions on NATO, Ukraine, and international stability.

The US President Donald Trump’s new national security plan was endorsed by the Kremlin on Sunday, which claimed that it substantially reflected Russia’s own viewpoints. For the first time, Russia has officially applauded a US paper of this kind. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the changes in the plan matched Moscow’s worldview “in many ways.”

The Trump-signed policy frames the Western Hemisphere as a region of US influence, emphasizes “flexible realism,” and advocates for a revival of the Monroe Doctrine from the 19th century. Additionally, it called attention to Europe’s weaknesses, stated that the US has a fundamental stake in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, and called for fresh strategic stability with Russia.

While praising the document’s commitment to confront NATO expansion, Peskov warned that some members of the US “deep state” might have a different perspective on international security than the President. The idea of a “deep state” has been written down by detractors as a conspiracy theory.

Moscow has been portrayed as a danger by US policies since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 and annexed Crimea in 2014. Trump’s strategy, which emphasizes collaboration and strategic stability, is a welcome change in tone, according to the Kremlin.

Along with highlighting the Indo-Pacific as a crucial geopolitical and economic region, the policy calls for US and alliance military preparedness to avert Taiwan-related crises. Analysts point out that Moscow’s desire to counterbalance US influence in the area is strengthened by Russia’s shift to China following Western sanctions.

Peskov came to the conclusion that, notwithstanding ongoing historical difficulties and differing opinions, the plan represents an unparalleled alignment of US and Russian perspectives on important global security concerns.
