Tide and Charmin Prices Will Increase at Procter & Gamble Owing to Tariff Costs
Prices of Charmin and Tide Are Rising—P&G Blames Trump’s Tariffs
Prepare for more pressure if your budget already feels tight. The firm that makes common home items like Charmin toilet paper and Tide laundry detergent, Procter & Gamble, has announced a price rise that will impact around 25% of its product line beginning next month.
The consumer products behemoth acknowledged on a recent results call that tariffs are costing it $1 billion, which is far more than it had initially projected in June. P&G claims that in order to stay up, it is forced to hike prices.
This hasn’t happened suddenly. In April, the corporation initially issued a warning that it intended to raise prices as a result of growing financial strains. Now it’s official.
CEO Jon Moeller listed inflation, interest rate fluctuations, and political unrest as some of the persistent issues influencing consumer behavior and corporate operations. Donald Trump’s tariffs, however, are having the biggest impact on the bottom line.
