Maureen Waititu Responds to Instagram Criticism of Weight Loss

Maureen Waititu, a Kenyan digital developer, has strongly reacted to those who have criticized her recent weight loss, reminding followers that her decision was motivated by health considerations rather than beauty.

“This is how I’ve always [looked] before my kiddos for those who have refused to accept the ‘new me,'” the mother of two wrote alongside a striking photo of herself wearing black shorts and a denim shirt in a recent Instagram Story. The post was a throwback to her modeling days before becoming a mother. “I have no qualms about losing weight for better health, and you can’t afford to put me through all the problems I’ve had with weight gain again.”

Her declaration is a daring reaction to remarks made by some admirers who bemoaned the changes in her figure after she drastically reduced her weight, especially in the area around her hips.

She continued with a facepalm emoji, saying, “The ones for, oh you no longer have hips, oh, who told her she looks better with weight loss, oh please bring back your hips.” “I go for agility and health.”

She discussed her modeling career in a follow-up article, pointing out that she belonged to a generation that contributed to a change in the fashion industry’s ideals of beauty.

She wrote in the caption of a picture of herself walking the runway at a Samantha Bridal event, “Yes, I was that girl.” P.S. At this point, they began to allow voluptuous models. My weight was 61/62 kg. I am 5’6″, or 168 cm, for comparison. I now have non-lying hips that measure 44 inches and weigh 64 kg.
Waititu also took use of the occasion to advocate for a healthy way of living, pointing her fans to Nairobi Bariatric, a bariatric and weight management assistance center, for anyone wishing to follow in her footsteps.

After a year-long journey that she only recently started talking about in public, she responded. Maureen shared a video on May 20, 2025, in which she contrasted her present self with a film from 355 days ago. Although the alteration was noticeable, she claimed that the true shift was within.

She commented, “It has taken me a lot of courage to put this here.” “My goal was to lose weight and maintain it off for the rest of my life.”

Maureen earlier disclosed that she lost 22 kg in four months after undergoing a gastric balloon treatment at Nairobi Bariatric Center. For the former video vixen, the past year has been about more than just numbers on a scale, from fighting depression and emotional eating to finding her sense of worth.
