CBS Cuts The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

The final episode of Stephen Colbert’s Late Show is approaching.

During Thursday’s program filming, the 61-year-old host disclosed that CBS has cancelled his nightly chat show, with the last episode scheduled to air in May.

“I want to share with you something that I learned last night before we begin the show,” he added. We shall have our final season next year; The Late Show will be shut down by the network in May.

The show has been completely canceled, therefore Stephen, who took over as host from David Letterman in 2015, won’t be passing it on to another presenter.

He continued, to jeers from the crowd: “I understand how you feel. Not only is our show coming to an end, but The Late Show on CBS is also ending. No one is going to replace me. All of this is simply disappearing. The people at CBS have been excellent partners, I must say. And I want to thank all of you, the audience, who have come every night, both inside and outside, and from all over the world.

“I have the utmost gratitude for the 200 employees that work here. This show is ours to perform. For the past ten years, I’ve had the honor and duty of sharing with you what we do every day in front of this camera. We get to do this show for each other every single day, all day long.

And it’s an amazing job, I must say. It’s a job I look forward to doing for another ten months with this typical group of fools, and I wish someone else was getting it. It will be enjoyable.

Network executives affirmed that Stephen was “irreplaceable” and commended him for his contributions to the program.

In a statement, President of CBS Studios David Staph, President of CBS Entertainment Amy Reisenbach, and Co-CEO of Paramount Global George Cheeks said, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season.” At that point, we will retire the Late Show franchise because we believe Stephen Colbert is irreplaceable.

“That Stephen called CBS home makes us proud. The pantheon of greats that adorned late-night television will honor him and the broadcast.

The statement maintained that the show’s cancellation was solely a “financial” choice.

“This is just a financial decision against a difficult backdrop in the middle of the night,” it went on. It has nothing to do with the show’s performance, its content, or other Paramount-related issues.

This painful choice was made even more difficult by our respect, love, and admiration for Stephen Colbert’s and his amazing team’s abilities. With his innovative comedy, must-watch monologue, and interviews with prominent figures in politics, entertainment, and news from all fields, Stephen has swept the CBS late-night scene.

For nine consecutive seasons, the show has been the top-rated late-night program; Stephen’s humor is widely shared on social media and other platforms every day; and the broadcast is ingrained in the culture of the country.

In terms of performance, caliber, and prominence, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s achievements are noteworthy and noteworthy. We are extremely appreciative and eager to honor Stephen and celebrate the program with its millions of viewers and admirers throughout the course of the next ten months.
