Burna Boy: The Reason I’ve Never Taken a Vacation
The never-ending grind of Burna Boy.
Burna Boy emphasizes his strong work ethic by admitting he has never taken a real vacation.
He is now thinking about having a family at the age of 34.
The well-known Afrobeats artist Burna Boy, who is renowned for his frenetic live performances and prolific output, has disclosed an astonishing fact about his career: he has never really taken a holiday.
The artist revealed a glimpse of his unrelenting work ethic in a recent interview with the BBC, where taking regular breaks seems like a foreign idea.
As they discussed the concept of rest, the interviewer noted Burna Boy’s ongoing professional involvement and said, “Now you’ve just kept going.” You have persisted.
“Man, I don’t know,” the artist freely said when asked what a “resting Burna” may look like. I’ve never had a vacation, you know.”
This impression was further emphasized by the interviewer, who said, “I’ve never seen Burna on a beach just with his toes,” suggesting a persistent absence of the Grammy-winning artist’s usual carefree, vacation vision.
Burna went into detail about his infrequent beachside encounters, claiming that they only happen in Lagos or when he returns to his hometown.
He also remembered one Jamaican vacation. He swiftly stressed, though, that in his opinion, these situations do not qualify as true vacations.
“To be fair, isn’t that your home? Additionally, there is also home. It’s as if I’m incapable of counting,” he clarified.
He had previously insisted that he had no ambitions to start a family anytime soon, but on his 34th birthday, he seemed to change his mind.
The Afrobeats star, who turned 34 on July 2, 2025, in Lagos, disclosed that he is starting to sense how his age is influencing this choice.
Burna revealed that this contemplation was sparked by a recent chat with billionaire oil magnate Joseph Ezeokafor Jr. (Jowizaza).
“Omo, I don dey old oh, I for begin born pikins,” he said candidly in Pidgin, which roughly translates to, “I’m getting older — I should probably start having children.”
This represents a significant shift in the artist’s position. Burna had previously said in public that he was not ready to become a father as recently as May 2024, highlighting his wish to be completely settled, perhaps married, and able to give his kids the security and attention he feels they deserve before starting a family.
A new chapter in the “African Giant’s” life that goes beyond his illustrious music career to concentrate on his personal legacy has been hinted at by his recent comments during his birthday party, which have generated a great deal of enthusiasm among his international fan base and industry watchers.
