The Rome Conference Agrees to Provide More Than €10 Billion to Help Rebuild Ukraine
At a summit in Rome, more than €10 billion was promised to aid Ukraine’s recovery in the face of ongoing Russian drone and missile attacks.
According to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a high-level conference aimed at assisting Ukraine’s economic recovery in Rome on Thursday obtained promises totaling more than €10 billion, or almost $11.7 billion.
World leaders such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy attended the ceremony, which coincides with fresh rounds of Russian drone and missile attacks on Kyiv.
Speaking at the conference’s start, President Zelenskiy called the attacks on his nation “pure terrorism” and urged allies to continue to stand with him.
“I think we should be proud of the result we have achieved together today—nations, international organizations, financial institutions, local authorities, the business sector, and civil society,” Meloni said, praising the international community’s coordinated reaction. She declared that over €10 billion had been committed collectively at the summit.
Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, also revealed agreements worth €2.3 billion that will support Ukraine’s economic recovery and infrastructure.
“We hope to unlock up to 10 billion euros in investments to rebuild homes, reopen hospitals, revitalize businesses, and secure energy with 2.3 billion euros in agreements signed,” von der Leyen stated. “We are genuinely investing in the future of Ukraine.”
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, this is the fourth international meeting intended to mobilize support for the country worldwide. Leaders at the meeting highlighted expectations for Ukraine to follow in the footsteps of Germany and Italy’s post-World War II recoveries, citing them as models of resiliency and reconstruction.
