Russia Denies BRICS Is Anti-American After Trump Threatens Tariffs

Russia has rejected Trump’s warnings as “language of manipulation and coercion” and stated that BRICS is not anti-American.

In response to recent statements made by US President Donald Trump, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has denied claims that the BRICS group of rising economies is anti-American.

“BRICS is not an anti-American association,” Ryabkov said Thursday while speaking in Moscow. There isn’t anything anti-American on the BRICS agenda.

His remarks follow just days after Trump called the BRICS bloc “anti-American” at a campaign rally on Sunday and threatened to impose an additional 10% tariff on its members if they persisted in what he called “hostile economic policies.”

Ryabkov warned against the use of forceful language in international diplomacy and criticized the rhetoric emanating from Washington. “The participants of this association should not be subjected to language that is, in your opinion, deceptive or threatening regarding what is or is not occurring, including on the BRICS platform,” he stated.

BRICS, which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, was established as a forum for economic cooperation among emerging countries. However, Western governments are becoming more concerned about the group’s expanding influence. Member nations have, however, repeatedly declared that the group’s goal is multipolar collaboration rather than conflict.

Despite growing tensions between major powers, Ryabkov’s comments highlight Russia’s intention to keep BRICS away from geopolitical rivalry narratives.
