Producer Kayrop and Liboi Collaborate on the Hot Anthem “Twende Sote”
“Twende Sote,” a single off their upcoming joint EP, “Nani Alisema,” was released by African contemporary vocalist Liboi in collaboration with Kenyan Afro House Music Producer and DJ Kayrop. An intriguing offering in the Afro-house and African current music worlds, “Twende Sote,” which translates to “Let’s all go” in Swahili, blends tradition with futuristic sounds in a way that seems both incredibly grounded and surprisingly innovative.
A sound that throbs with happiness, movement, and connection lies at the core of “Twende Sote.” Kayrop was already using its own language when he played the song for me. Like, it went straight to my soul without even waiting for words! Liboi revealed. The song creates an immersive experience that listeners can feel in their chest by fusing ancient chants and organic percussion with the intensity of African dance.
“Twende Sote” is African dance music, according to Kayrop, with a modern twist that is rooted in African rhythms. He claimed that traditional African rhythms, Afro-house, and Gqom were among the genres that most influenced him. “The track has a sense of community; everyone is moving together and exchanging energy,” he continued. While the wild, pounding drumming provide this raw, inspiring energy that makes you want to move, the melodies convey that sense of unification.
Moving people on a bodily and emotional level was Kayrop’s aim. As a producer, I was creating a groove that, without you even realizing it, makes your head nod. Additionally, I wanted the melodies to evoke an emotion in them before the words did, almost as if the music were already narrating a tale.
Their co-working relationship was characterized by “beautiful creative chemistry that felt like a conversation through sound,” according to Liboi. “We both entered the room prepared to play, explore, and simply feel our way through the music,” she added. “He [Kayrop] would come through with these crazy good beats, already tuned into my style, but still leaving enough room for me to pour myself into them,” she continued. While the artists were working on another project, the song suddenly sprung to life. Kayrop clarified, “We decided to completely scrap a song that wasn’t working out rather than trying to force it.” TWENDE SOTE, a last-minute concept that ultimately brought everything together flawlessly, was born as a result of that choice.
The artists discussed their future intentions, stating that they are creating the visuals for the song and creating an experience for their upcoming EP’s live performance. Liboi stated, “We’re also coming up with new ways to perform these songs so that fans can really feel the energy we put into them.”
