James Gunn, the director of the new Superman movie, says it’s a story about “basic human kindness”

The Hollywood filmmaker has brought the superhero back to the big screen with a new movie starring David Corenswet alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. He has now stated that the screenplay is meant to reflect the history of the United States as a nation.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, he stated: “Superman is America’s narrative. A story about immigrants who arrived from other countries and filled the country, but for me, it’s primarily about how we’ve lost the value of fundamental human kindness.

Since it’s about human kindness, there will undoubtedly be some rude people who will take offense at the very fact that it’s about kindness. But don’t bother them.

He went on to say: “It seems like this Superman arrives at a specific moment when people are losing faith in the goodwill of other people.

“I’m sharing a story about a man who is exceptionally talented, and that feels necessary right now because of the meanness that has surfaced as a result of cultural people being cruel online.

And I’m included in this. There are millions of people having tantrums online, and it goes on and on. What cultural progress are we expected to make?

“The human brain finds that to be a very challenging environment, and we have no idea what is real.”

“I would think about blocking the internet if I could press a button to do so. And no, I don’t make movies to make the world a better place, but it would make me happy if there were a few people who were a little more kind after watching this.

Gunn’s Superman, which opens in theaters on July 11, follows David Corenswet’s character as he attempts to reconcile his human and Kryptonian existence as Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) goes to great lengths to put him to ruin.

The movie also features a number of other well-known DC heroes, including Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion).

Despite his recent appointment as the DCU lead, Corenswet has previously stated that he is unsure of Superman’s post-film future in the property.
