Elon Musk’s X CEO Linda Yaccarino Resigns After Two Years

Linda Yaccarino thanks Elon Musk for the incredible leadership opportunity as she leaves her position as CEO of X after two years.

Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, the social media site that was formerly known as Twitter, has formally announced her departure following over two years in that position.

Joining the firm in June 2023 after a prominent career as president of advertising at NBCUniversal, Yaccarino posted on X to announce her leave and thank Elon Musk for what she called a “extraordinary mission.”

“Elon Musk has my sincere gratitude for giving me the responsibility of defending free expression, reviving the business, and making X the Everything App,” she wrote.

Her departure signals the conclusion of a contentious period for X, which has experienced significant changes while owned by Musk, including as widespread layoffs, a redesign of the platform’s functionality, and a tense relationship with advertisers.

Yaccarino’s resignation coincides with continued uncertainty regarding the company’s financial stability, user base engagement, and strategic direction, though Musk has not yet commented on the matter.

When Yaccarino took over, the platform was seeing a significant decline in advertising from big brands as a result of Musk’s takeover and extensive adjustments. In line with Musk’s larger goal of creating a single “everything app,” she was usually viewed as a calming factor that would help advertisers regain their confidence.

She noted in her departure note, “I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime when Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X).” “I’ve decided to step down after two exceptional years.”
