Diddy thanks the judge for not testifying as the defense rests its case in the sex trafficking trial
Combs ultimately decided not to testify after consulting with his legal team about the situation.
On Tuesday, June 24, Sean “Diddy” Combs formally informed presiding Judge Arun Subramanian that he will not be testifying in his ongoing sex trafficking trial.
The brief conversation, in which Judge Subramanian initially inquired about the Bad Boy founder’s emotional state in court, was covered by TMZ. “Your honor, I’m doing great,” he answered. “You’re doing a great job, and I wanted to thank you for that.”
The court thanked Combs for the compliment and affirmed Diddy’s comprehension that his decision to not testify was “his and his alone.” Following a discussion with his legal team, Combs responded that he ultimately decided not to testify.
After the prosecution wrapped up their case Tuesday with the testimony of Homeland Security Investigations special agent Joseph Cerciello, Diddy’s defense team decided not to call any witnesses and instead just offered fragments of evidence. Rapper Kid Cudi, Combs’ ex-girlfriend Cassie, an ex who testified as “Jane Doe,” and other former sex workers and employees of the Hip-Hop mogul have all testified in the prosecution’s case.
Jurors were ordered home until Thursday, June 26, when they will return to the courthouse to hear closing arguments, as the defense has formally rested its case.
Combs has maintained his innocence despite being charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, deception, or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs faces a sentence of 15 years to life in prison if found guilty.
