Jon “Bones” Jones, a legendary figure in mixed martial arts, has announced his retirement from the UFC
“MMA will always be a part of who I am,” Jones wrote in a message that was quite personal.
Considered by many to be the best mixed martial artist in UFC history, Jon “Bones” Jones has formally declared his retirement from the sport.
During a press conference at UFC Fight Night in Azerbaijan, UFC President Dana White initially verified the news. White disclosed, “Jon Jones called us last night and retired.” Officially, Jon Jones is retired. The UFC heavyweight champion is Tom Aspinall.
Later, the 36-year-old Jones spoke directly to fans on social media. The multi-division winner stated, “This decision comes after a lot of reflection, and I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the journey I’ve experienced over the years.”
My objective was to push the limits of what was feasible in this sport from the moment I entered the Octagon. I will always treasure my memories of being the youngest UFC champion in history, defending my title against some of the world’s top fighters, and creating lifelong memories with fans all over the world.
“I’ve experienced both amazing highs and some difficult lows, but each obstacle has strengthened me as a person and as a warrior and taught me something worthwhile. “MMA will always be a part of who I am, and I’m excited to see how I can continue to contribute to the sport and inspire others in new ways,” he said in closing.
With a remarkable 28-1 record going into retirement, Jones’ only defeat came from being disqualified for a maneuver that is now permitted under UFC regulations. At the age of 21, he became the youngest champion in UFC history, and he has been a dominant force in the sport for more than ten years.
Many people were surprised to learn about his retirement, particularly since Jones’ most anticipated fight to date was against Tom Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champion.
White noted the effect on Aspinall and acknowledged the issue. “We’ll make it up to Tom, even though I obviously feel horrible for him for losing so much time and money. Tom Aspinall is a decent person. He has been amazing with the entire process we have been going through.
White went on to commend the new official heavyweight champion, highlighting Aspinall’s readiness to face any UFC competitor.
“He has been prepared to fight him at any time or place, and now he asserts that he will fight anyone.” I’ll fight him if you tell me who it is. Aspinall has been excellent, then. He will be a fantastic heavyweight champion for us, and I can’t wait to collaborate with him.
Even though Jones is no longer competing, his reputation as an athlete whose unique combination of talent, intelligence, and athleticism changed the face of mixed martial arts will never be forgotten. Outside the Octagon, fans are now eager to see what his upcoming chapter will bring.
