Iran and Israel reach a ceasefire agreement
Tuesday, June 24, US President Donald Trump said that there was now a ceasefire between Israel and Iran and asked both sides not to break it. This gave people hope that the 12-day war that has threatened Middle Eastern security would end soon.
Many countries, including Qatar, have closed their skies because of the conflict, which has made people worry that the situation will get worse. For example, Rwandan Air said on Monday that it was canceling flights to and from Doha and Dubai, which are two of the busiest places in the Middle East.
Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, said that his country had agreed to Trump’s plan for a ceasefire. He also said that his country had reached its goal of eliminating Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile threats, but he warned that any breaches would be met with harsh punishment, according to his office.
Trump wrote earlier on Truth Social, “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT.” PLEASE DON’T Break It!”
Israel’s ambulance service said that a new wave of rockets fired by Iran killed four people, and Iranian officials said that nine people were killed in an attack in northern Iran on Tuesday morning.
Trump asked for a “complete ceasefire” to end the war on Monday. This seemed to imply that Israel and Iran would have time to finish missions that were already in progress, after which the ceasefire would start gradually.
His speech came after the conflict quickly got worse since Saturday, when the US bombed Iranian nuclear sites. In response, Iran fired missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar on Monday.
A senior White House source said that Trump and Netanyahu made the deal to stop fighting during a phone call, and Israel agreed as long as Iran didn’t attack again.
“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR’,” Trump said on Truth Social.
