Bellingham adds that following the Club World Cup, he will have shoulder surgery

Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid and England, said on Sunday that he will have surgery to treat a chronic shoulder condition following the conclusion of the Club World Cup in the United States.

Despite experiencing discomfort, the 21-year-old has been playing for both club and nation since 2023. The operation has been planned by Real Madrid to take place after the tournament, which ends later this month.

Bellingham has been regularly spotted with strapping on his shoulder during games since joining Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund earlier this year. He missed two games for Real Madrid and England in late 2023 after the ailment initially flared up in a match against Rayo Vallecano.

Bellingham discussed his intention to have surgery after Real Madrid defeated Pachuca of Mexico 3-1 in the Club World Cup. He told reporters, “I was tired of playing with the sling, but I’ve reached the point where the pain isn’t so bad.”

I’ve made the decision to get surgery following the tournament since I’m losing a lot of weight from perspiring so much. The doctors and physiotherapists have been amazing, but I’ve been waiting for a while and my patience is wearing thin. All I want is freedom,” he continued.

Since joining Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023, Bellingham has been a vital member of the team despite his discomfort. In his debut season, he helped the Spanish powerhouses win both the La Liga and the Champions League. It’s still unknown when Bellingham will return.
