FIFACWC: Maresca’s Reaction to Jackson’s Flamengo Red Card
Enzo Maresca, the manager of Chelsea, said nothing after his top striker, Nicolas Jackson, was sent off four minutes after entering the game, destroying Chelsea’s hopes of rescuing a victory against Flamengo.
This was Jackson’s second consecutive red card, having already been sent out for another brutal challenge in a Premier League match against Newcastle in less than a month.
Maresca said at the time that Jackson needed to develop and gain knowledge.
Jackson’s reckless challenge on Friday put his team in a difficult situation as they finished second in Group D and faced the champions of a difficult Group C that includes Boca Juniors, Benfica, and Bayern Munich.
“It was a red card,” Maresca stated in his post-match press conference. So, nothing to say. Flamengo deserves to win, so congrats to them.
“I haven’t discussed the red card with Jackson yet.
“Congratulations to them, but we tried to do something different for the future and for next season as well. They deserved it, in my opinion.
Marc Cucurella, a defender for Chelsea, also called Nicolas Jackson’s red suit unlucky.
It’s a little unlucky. He kicked the player’s leg instead of the ball when he attempted to plant his foot.
That’s all. He is now missed for the upcoming game.
He is a talented young player, but perhaps he needs to work on this.
“It’s part of the game that we are not flawless.”
