Chris Brown enters a plea of not guilty regarding the alleged bottle attack at a nightclub in London

Chris Brown entered a not guilty plea to the charge of attempting to commit grievous bodily harm (GBH) during an alleged 2023 bottle attack at a nightclub in London.

Prosecutors say the 36-year-old singer assaulted music producer Abraham Diaw at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023, calling the altercation “unprovoked.”

Brown’s indictment was amended to include charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon, a tequila bottle, in connection with the same incident. The hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday morning took place just hours after Brown’s performance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium as part of his Breezy Bowl XX World Tour.

In order to submit a plea to those allegations, the Beautiful People hitmaker will appear in court again on July 11 before going on trial on October 26, 2026.

Before making his plea, Brown said, “Not guilty ma’am,” at the hearing, confirming his identity and birthdate.

The music artist’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, an American citizen who goes by the stage name HoodyBaby, also pleaded not guilty to the severe bodily injury allegation.

When Brown arrived in the UK last month to get ready for a run of European gigs on his world tour, he was arrested in Manchester.

Before being released after agreeing to pay a £5 million security charge to the court, the R&B singer was detained for almost a week.

The security cost serves as a monetary promise that he will appear in court, and if he violates his bail terms, Brown may be ordered to forfeit the money.

Last weekend marked the beginning of the UK leg of the singer’s world tour, which judge Tony Baumgartner confirmed will be permitted to continue.

When Brown performed in Manchester last Sunday (15.06.25), he thanked the audience “for coming and supporting me.”

Thanks to the jail, too, the Go Crazy singer joked. It was quite pleasant.

Brown’s tour, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough album of the same name, continues this weekend with two performances at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. His next court appearance will be held after the European dates are finalized.
