T.I. is being sued for allegedly stealing the title of the movie “Situationships” from a smaller creator
Rapper and director T.I. is facing legal repercussions for his upcoming film “Situationships,” as a lawsuit alleges the title was stolen from an already-existing web series.
TV producer Cylia Senii has sued T.I. and his business, Grand Hustle Films, for trademark infringement, claiming that they purposefully stole the moniker “Situationships,” which she created and shared on YouTube, BET Digital, Amazon Prime, and Tubi for profit.
Featherstone Entertainment, based in Atlanta, filed the complaint, which states that the defendants are “participating in a common scheme and effort to take advantage of the public’s association of Featherstone’s ‘Situationships’ brand by marketing their own film and entitling it ‘Situationships.'”
Senii, who produced her “Situationships” series from 2019 to 2024, claims she was “shocked” to learn that T.I. was writing, directing, and acting in a movie with the same name.
Her legal team highlights concerning overlaps. A former coworker who was close to T.I.’s family reportedly moved on to work on his movie. The movie proposal now has another producer with whom she discussed the idea.
Senii calls the scenario “ironic” given that Tiny and T.I. recently won a $71 million lawsuit after toymaker MGA misappropriated their intellectual property.
In December, she sent a cease-and-desist letter, and in May, T.I.’s request to trademark the name was denied. Now, alleging unfair competition and civil conspiracy, she is requesting monetary damages and an injunction.
