Tyler Perry Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit During ‘Straw”s Popular Film
Tyler Perry is making headlines once more, but this time for a very shocking cause!
The well-known film producer, who is popular for his most recent Netflix film, “Straw,” is now facing a sexual assault lawsuit from a cast member of his popular television program, “The Oval.”
Derek Dixon, Tyler Perry’s accuser, stated that the assault started in 2020 when the filmmaker approached him about a possible part in one or more of his movies.

Dixon said that after Perry took his phone and said he would contact him in 2019, he suddenly offered him a two-episode role in the television series “Ruthless.”
In 2020, the producer allegedly asked him to come to his house, and he accepted the invitation in the hopes that their friendship would lead to further acting opportunities.
Because he was too drunk, Dixon remembered spending the night in the guest room. He turned off Perry’s efforts, but Perry was determined to win him over, and as the night wore on, Perry allegedly climbed into bed with him and began massaging his thighs.
Following that episode, Dixon scored a big role as Dale in “The Oval,” and then his alleged nightmare began as Perry’s sexually suggestive texts became more heated. Additionally, Perry told him that he has a preference for guys sexually.
Additionally, Dixon compared his on-screen persona to the devoted and reliant guys Perry allegedly favored. According to him, Dale in the play was gay, homeless, and in need of help or favors, so he had to offer sex in exchange.
As verified by TMZ, Dixon allegedly reprimanded Perry in a tactful manner out of concern that a harsh reprimand would harm his developing acting career and his relationship with the producer.
The actor is seeking damages in the amount of nine figures.
Dixon revealed that he had visited Perry again in Atlanta in 2020. After Perry allegedly grabbed the actor’s throat and used provocative language, what started out as a friendly conversation descended into sexual accusations.
Additionally, the lawsuit included text message evidence between Dixon and Perry in which Dixon allegedly stated, “Unless they wanted to f-ck you, no straight man would be cooking dinner for you or going on walks with you.” I would give you an f-ck.
He stated that he was staying at Perry’s house in Atlanta in 2021 when another frightening thing occurred. He recalls coming in to say goodbye and the producer undressing him while he was only wearing his underwear.
Dixon stated that in June 2024, following these alleged interactions, he submitted a complaint to the Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission. He even left “The Oval” because the ongoing sexual harassment was too much for him to handle.
He has since filed a lawsuit against the producer and his company, Tyler Perry Studios, alleging quid pro quo, abuse, sexual assault, and workplace sexual harassment. Dixon also seeks damages totaling $260 million.
With the new “Straw” film, the producer makes a lot of money.
Dixon’s charges follow the actor’s unprecedented success with his most recent film, which was released on Netflix. The film, which is titled “Straw,” stars Taraji P. Henson as Janiyah Wiltkinson.
Since it was made available on Netflix, “Straw” has generated a lot of discussion on the filmmaker’s skill. Although some consider the story to be his best to date, others believe it only serves to further the idea that he is playing a Black lady who is unable to manage her life in one of his films.
The film’s statistics are also living up to the anticipation. After being released on June 6, “Straw” reportedly received over 45 million hours of viewing from Netflix subscribers in the week of June 2–8.
The film was in the top 10 in 81 countries globally, according to Netflix data. Among other nations, it was the number one song in the US, Venezuela, Bolivia, El Salvador, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, and Panama.
Last year, the home of the 55-year-old survived an invasion.
As 2024 drew near, disguised burglars tried to enter Perry’s haven and take his possessions from his house. According to The Blast, four masked raiders who sought to enter the premises were apprehended by police.
The home’s thermal imaging camera instantly captured the intruders, alerting the security personnel on the property and causing them to flee, all thanks to the producer’s advanced security system.
According to artifacts found at the scene, the invaders had a saw, crowbars, bolt cutters, screwdrivers, gloves, and a cap. A cell phone was also found by authorities with these sharp objects.
The suspects had already left before the building’s security staff called the Los Angeles Police Department to report the occurrence; as a result, there were no arrests made and simply allegations of attempted burglary and inquiry.
Speaking Out Against the Wildfires, Tyler Perry Supports Homeowners
As they faced with the aftermath of the disaster, the producer used his voice to call for improved care for the wildfire victims in Los Angeles. Prior to the wildfires, Perry responded to the insurance companies’ decision to cancel homeowners’ policies in Los Angeles.
“Watching a daughter use a garden hose to try to protect her 90-year-old parents’ home because their insurance was canceled was just gut-wrenching to me,” the actor wrote onto his Instagram story.
After paying payments for their entire lives, he questioned why the insurance companies would choose to deny the homeowners a safety net.
He went on to say, “Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years and then, all of a sudden, be allowed to cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich on?” asking how he could provide consolation to those who were impacted.
Inquiring about the legal justification for these corporations’ actions, Perry’s colleagues also added to the conversation and brought attention to the problem.
