Air India flight traveling from Thailand to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing due to a bomb threat

An Air India flight heading to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Thailand due to a bomb threat.

An Air India flight heading to New Delhi was compelled to execute an emergency landing in Phuket, Thailand, on Friday following an onboard bomb threat, as reported by airport authorities.

Flight AI 379 departed from Phuket at 9:30 a.m. local time (0230 GMT) with 156 passengers on board. The aircraft executed a loop over the Andaman Sea prior to its safe return to Phuket International Airport, as monitored by Flightradar24. An official from Airports of Thailand (AOT) confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated following emergency procedures.

Authorities have not provided any additional information regarding the nature or source of the bomb threat. Air India has not released an official statement as of now.

The incident follows closely on the heels of a tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which resulted in the loss of over 240 lives shortly after takeoff—heightening existing worries regarding aviation safety in the area.

The bomb threat underscores a wider trend impacting Indian aviation. In 2023, Indian airlines and airports documented close to 1,000 hoax bomb threats during the initial 10 months of the year—nearly tenfold the number recorded in 2022.

Authorities are actively investigating the recent threat, prioritizing passenger safety above all else.
