US Embassy in Iraq Gets Ready for Ordered Evacuation Due to Increasing Security Risks Sources Say
The US embassy in Iraq is getting ready for an evacuation order because of increased security threats in the area.
Speaking on Wednesday, a US source and an Iraqi security official said the US embassy in Baghdad is getting ready for an ordered evacuation because of the growing security threats in the area. This comes as Tehran’s threats escalated during tense nuclear talks.
Before, Iran’s defense minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh, threatened to attack US military installations in the area in the event of war or the breakdown of nuclear negotiations with Washington. Fears of a possible military escalation in the Middle East have increased as a result of the concerning statement.
There will be an organized departure from the US Embassy in Baghdad, according to the State Department. Although the US military is ready to assist if needed, the goal is to accomplish this through commercial means, a US official revealed.
Though they haven’t released a formal statement yet, the US State Department seems to be getting ready. Operations at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the biggest US military facility in the area, have remained unchanged despite the escalating threats. No evacuation orders have been issued, and US authorities confirmed that the base and US Embassy in Qatar are still fully operational.
To make matters more unpredictable, US President Donald Trump recently stated in an interview that he had less faith that Iran would stop enriching uranium as part of any nuclear deal. In the absence of a new agreement, Obama renewed his earlier threats to strike Iran.
