Governor of Texas calls out the National Guard as protests against ICE spread across the country

Abbott uses military force in response to mounting protests against immigration raids.

Texas has joined the nationwide protest movement against recent ICE raids, and Governor Greg Abbott isn’t taking any chances. As communities get ready for further protests over the Trump Administration’s immigration crackdowns, the Republican governor has said that the Texas National Guard will be sent in to “ensure peace and order.”

In San Antonio, where gatherings are anticipated on Wednesday and Saturday, troops are already on alert. The purpose of these gatherings is to express solidarity with demonstrators in Los Angeles, where the protests initially began.

Abbott underlined that nonviolent demonstrations are allowed but cautioned that any violent or property-damaging behavior would lead to arrests. Late Tuesday night, he added, “Texas Guard will use every tool and strategy to help law enforcement maintain order.”

This action being taken as immigration enforcement continues to spark national controversy, with activists advocating for immigration reform and demanding a halt to ICE raids. As several states ponder following Texas’ example, protesters nationwide are now preparing for a potentially more intense law enforcement reaction.
