Osaka secures her first WTA title following her maternity break

Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, defeated Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan 6-1 7-5 in the final of the L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo, a clay WTA 125 tournament, to earn her first WTA title since winning the 2021 Australian Open.

The Japanese player, 27, won her first WTA title since giving birth in July 2023.

It’s kind of ironic that I won my first trophy on what I considered to be my poorest surface. But there’s always space to develop and grow, which is one of my favorite things about life,” Osaka wrote on X.

Last year, Osaka struggled with her lack of power and precision, which prevented her from making it past the second round of any Grand Slam.

Later this month, the former world number one will play in the French Open main draw. In January, he advanced to the third round of the Australian Open before resigning from the game due to injury.
