Wendy Williams Hires Famous Lawyer Joe Tacopina to Help With Her Guardianship Case

Tacopina recently defended A$AP Rocky in his successful lawsuit against A$AP Relli.

Wendy Williams has recruited Joe Tacopina, one of the most sought-after lawyers in the entertainment industry, to help her with her ongoing guardianship dispute.

In an interview with Banfield of NewsNation on April 3, Tacopina made the announcement, stating, “Yes, I am representing her, I’m her personal attorney right now.” In one way or another, I will be getting involved in the case, although it’s a complicated procedure. With a laugh and a cunning grin, he continued, “The last thing they want is to see my face in that courtroom.”

Tacopina is now in the news because he defended A$AP Rocky in his recent gun assault trial against A$AP Relli, which resulted in victory for the Harlem rapper who was charged with two felonies of assault with a semiautomatic handgun. Other well-known clients from the past include Michael Jackson, Swizz Beatz, Ne-Yo, Meek Mill, YG, Alex Rodriguez, and President Donald Trump.

Williams contacted the attorney to ask about representation, the attorney disclosed on the 2 Angry Men podcast in early March. After viewing the Tubi documentary Saving Wendy, Tacopina referred to the media maven’s present treatment as “a true injustice,” saying that “murderers have more freedom than Wendy.”

Since May 2022, Williams has fought for his freedom from a guardianship that has been supervised by Sabrina Morrissey, a court-appointed legal guardian. Supporters of Williams, a New Jersey native who recently passed a capability test after being classified as “cognitively impaired,” have gathered outside of his assisted living home. Following the test, Williams dropped a troubling letter that said, “HELP! WENDY,” to the paparazzi.

Ginalisa Monterroso, Williams’ health care advocate, told People that Williams is no longer able to “decide where to live, how to spend her money, or have a bank account.” She is unable to vote, get married, choose the doctors she wants to see, or choose which friends are allowed to visit her at the facility. To go outside of the state, she needs special authorization from Morrissey and occasionally even Judge Lisa A. Sokoloff, who is in charge of her affairs.

Monterroso went on, “You have no rights.” “A person in prison has more rights than someone placed under guardianship.”

Williams previously discussed how her son bears some of the responsibility for the guardianship because, without her knowledge, he spent excessively from her Wells Fargo account, which led the bank to freeze her accounts and investigate her spending. When combined with her health issues, this led to the courts taking over.
