Strong winds strike the Crown Princess cruise ship at Fiordland, New Zealand, causing minor injuries
The cruise ship Crown Princess tilted near Fiordland due to severe winds, injuring three staff members and thirteen passengers.
According to a cruise line spokeswoman who spoke to PEOPLE, passengers on board the cruise ship Crown Princess were on a 14-day round-trip from Sydney, Australia, when they sustained “minor injuries” as the liner was pounded by severe winds on February 25.
“During a course change in Fiordland, New Zealand, Crown Princess ran into strong winds that caused the ship to momentarily tilt beyond its normal movement before stabilizing.”
The spokesperson claims that the ship’s safety was never jeopardized and that our crew acted swiftly to rectify the situation.
Thirteen visitors and three crew members were all minorly hurt, but they are all recovering nicely.
The Horizons food court was also briefly contaminated by a tiny amount of water from the Lido Deck pool, but it was promptly cleaned up and reopened. “The ship did not sustain any structural damage,” they add.
“We appreciate our guests’ understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” the representative continued. The trip proceeded according to schedule, and the Crown Princess is still completely secure and operable.
As he was “walking along doing my lap when all of a sudden, the boat I realized the boat was on an angle,” one traveler told the site. I needed to hold on.
“The tables and chairs went sliding across the room, and a girl went sliding on her chair over towards the pool,” a second traveler remarked.
“The buffet level was flooded from the pools so a bit soggy under foot for breakfast,” a third person posted about the event on Facebook, according to 7 News.
