Russian security forces kill a suspect who is allegedly planning attacks on a Jewish institution and the Moscow Metro

Russian security services have killed a guy who was suspected of organizing assaults against a Jewish institution and the Moscow metro.

A guy suspected of organizing terrorist acts against a Jewish religious institution in the Moscow area and the Moscow metro was “neutralized,” according to a Monday announcement from Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

The suspect resisted police’ attempts to apprehend him, so security agents opened fire, according to the FSB. He was shot and killed during the altercation. The suspect’s identification and any background information were not revealed by the agency.

Before going to Afghanistan to join a terrorist organization, the suspect had planned to carry out assaults in Moscow, according to the FSB. Authorities did not, however, identify the purported organization with which he was associated.

In recent years, the Russian security agency has increased counterterrorism activities, claiming dangers from both internal and foreign terrorist groups. Russian officials continue to tighten down on suspected militants in an effort to avert future attacks, even though Moscow has been relatively free of significant terrorist incidents in recent years.

Investigations are still on into the suspect’s network and possible collaborators, and no other information has been supplied.
