“Our City Is in Crisis,” says former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running for mayor of New York City
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has formally entered the campaign for mayor of New York City.
In a 17-minute video announcing his long-awaited campaign, he positioned himself as the leader who could rescue the city from a disaster.
Cuomo said on Twitter, “Our city is in crisis.” “I am running for mayor of New York City because of this.”
Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 due to sexual harassment accusations, is still a promising candidate because of his well-known name and close political connections. Despite a crowded Democratic primary race that includes state senators Zellnor Myrie and Jessica Ramos as well as Comptroller Brad Lander, polls indicate he could be the front-runner.
Congressman Ritchie Torres has already given Cuomo a significant support, referring to him as “a Mr. Tough Guy.” Opponents, though, are not holding back. “Unlike Mayor Adams, who raised your rent, or Governor Cuomo, who placed you in Tier 6, I have the courage to ask for your endorsement in person,” Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani said at a recent event.
Cuomo is still under investigation for his past, which includes a DOJ report that claims he established a “sexually hostile work environment” and a contentious COVID-19 nursing facility regulation. His lawyer argues that he is innocent, calling the DOJ’s conclusions “deeply flawed.”
