Ethiopia’s Kejelcha smashes the world record for half marathons
At the Medio Maraton de Valencia in Spain on Sunday, Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia broke the men’s half marathon world record by finishing in 57 minutes and 30 seconds, just one second behind the previous record.
Jacop Kiplimo of Kenya set that in Lisbon in 2021.
Running just his sixth half marathon, 27-year-old Kejelcha initially trailed the pacemakers before gaining ground at the three-kilometer mark.
The world indoor mile record holder Kejelcha won the race in record time after separating from Kenyans Daniel Mateiko and Isaia Kipkoech.
