Rapper Dame Dash says that JAY-Z was “morally wrong” for working with R. Kelly on the album “Best of Both Worlds”
Dash said of JAY-Z, “It’s morally wrong to work on a project with someone who raped my girl.”
Damon Dash made headlines when he said he wasn’t going to be on JAY-Z and R. Kelly’s record “Best of Both Worlds,” saying he had moral problems with them working together.
During an interview on the American Nu Network YouTube channel on Monday (Oct. 7), Dash talked about the project. It came out in 2002 and paired two of the biggest names in music at the time. Even though the album is important, Dash’s most recent words show that he is still unhappy with the way things are going with it.
Aaliyah, the late R&B singer, had a sexual relationship with Kelly when she was a minor, according to Dash. Dash says Kelly’s bad image and checkered past made him hesitant to be involved with the singer and JAY’s joint album.
“For the love of God, we can’t work on a project with someone who raped my girl or anyone else,” Dash said.
He was talking about the disturbing claims made against R. Kelly, which have hurt the singer’s reputation and have been widely covered over the years. Dash’s strong stance shows how deeply morally conflicted he felt about being involved with the record, which he says he tried to avoid from the start.
In the interview, Dash talked more about how he felt about working with the other person. He said, “I do know that when that project came out, I didn’t want any part of that project.” For Roc-A-Fella, I didn’t want any of the money to go to me or Roc-A-Fella.
His comments show a clear break from what JAY-Z did at a time when their relationship was having problems. “Right around that time, Jay was trying to kind of separate himself from us,” Dash remembered. “I wasn’t watering down.”
Dash said that a mutual friend, Deuce, told them that working together wasn’t a good idea, which made his choice to stay away from the project even stronger.
In the end, Dash let JAY-Z keep all the money he made from Best of Both Worlds, putting his morals ahead of money. “I had nothing to do with it,” he said, emphasizing that he wanted to be free of what he saw as a bad relationship.
This isn’t the first time Dash has said he doesn’t want to work with or be around Kelly. In 2019, the man from Harlem talked to Nick Cannon about not wanting to be in the music video for Kelly’s 2001 song “Fiesta” with JAY-Z.
During the chat, Dash said that he wasn’t in any scenes with Kelly that were in the official music video for the song.
Kelly is in prison right now, and she is serving two different sentences for crimes like sex trafficking, child pornography, and child sex crimes.
