Tecno sold more smartphones in Africa than Samsung and Apple in 2023

Transsion Holdings, manufacturer and maker of Tecno phones, has emerged as the top dog of smartphone sales by volume in Africa, topping Samsung and Apple, according to a new report. The report by Hong Kong-based firm Counterpoint Research discovered that Tecno smartphone shipments grew by 77 per cent year on year in Q4 2023.

• Tecno’s smartphone shipments grew by 77% YoY in Q4 2023, topping Samsung and Apple across the Middle East and Africa for the first time.
• Tecno’s smartphone shipment market share grew from 15% to 20% last year, while Samsung’s market share fell in the same period.
• Tecno, Infinix and iTel simultaneously accounted for 48 per cent of the smartphone market in Africa in 2023.
