Vietnam commits to engaging in constructive discussions with the United States regarding concerns related to goods transshipment
Vietnam commits to proactive collaboration with the US regarding concerns over goods transshipment, aiming to enhance stable and mutually advantageous trade relations.
Vietnam has committed to working collaboratively with the United States regarding issues related to goods transshipment, as Hanoi aims to uphold stable and mutually advantageous trade relations with Washington.
Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated on Thursday that Hanoi would persist in discussions with Washington regarding the matter while upholding the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
Hang stated that ongoing engagement would contribute to maintaining stable and mutually beneficial economic and trade relations between Vietnam and the United States while fostering a transparent and favorable investment and business environment in Vietnam.Â
Her comments came after a statement from Washington last week indicating that the United States is losing an estimated $19 billion to $26 billion each year in tariff revenue from goods, primarily from China, that are transshipped through third countries to evade US import duties.
The White House has identified Vietnam, along with Mexico and India, as significant hubs through which Chinese goods were reportedly being transshipped to the United States. It is estimated that approximately $67 billion worth of goods destined for the US were transshipped from China via the three countries in 2025.
Washington has intensified its scrutiny of transshipment practices in an effort to prevent goods from entering the US market through third countries to avoid tariffs.
Vietnam’s recent stance indicates its readiness to collaborate with Washington on the matter while aiming to safeguard the expansion of bilateral trade and investment relations.
The two countries have upheld a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with trade and investment serving as a crucial element of their economic relationship.
