Uber and Zipline have teamed up to introduce drone delivery services for Uber Eats throughout the United States
Uber and Zipline have teamed up to introduce autonomous drone deliveries for Uber Eats customers throughout the United States, aiming for 1 million daily deliveries.
Uber Technologies and Zipline, a company specializing in drone delivery, have announced a partnership to introduce autonomous drone deliveries for Uber Eats customers throughout the United States, with initial deliveries anticipated to commence later this year.
The partnership features a strategic investment from Uber in Zipline, though the financial terms of the investment remain undisclosed by the companies.
The companies announced their goal of scaling the service to reach up to 1 million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029.
The service will first debut in US markets where Zipline is already active, followed by an expansion to numerous additional cities nationwide.
Uber chose not to provide any remarks regarding the financial specifics of its investment in Zipline.
Zipline operates across four continents and has successfully completed approximately 2 million deliveries to date. The company has recently achieved a valuation of $7.6 billion following an $800 million fundraising round earlier this year.
The partnership reflects Uber’s agreement with drone delivery company Flytrex from last year, which similarly involved an investment in the company.
Zipline has been broadening its operations in the US by forming partnerships with prominent retailers and restaurants, including Walmart and over a dozen restaurant brands like Panera, Chipotle, and Wendy’s.
The recent agreement highlights Uber’s efforts to broaden its automated delivery services, while Zipline aims to enhance its drone technology throughout the US market.
