US is contemplating additional sanctions against a Brazilian judge, according to a report by the Financial Times
The U.S. government has engaged in discussions regarding potential new sanctions targeting Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, as reported by the Financial Times on Sunday, referencing sources familiar with the situation.
The U.S. imposed sanctions on Justice Moraes last July under the Global Magnitsky Act, penalizing him for his role in the trial that resulted in former President Jair Bolsonaro’s conviction and imprisonment for attempting a coup following his loss in the 2022 re-election bid.
The United States subsequently lifted these sanctions in December.
