Swedish union IF Metall has decided to suspend its strike action against Tesla

Swedish union IF Metall announced on Thursday that it will halt its nearly three-year-long industrial action against Tesla, effective August 19. The reason for this decision is that Tesla has purchased the contracts of all the union’s striking members at the company. This indicates that the conflict is no longer having any impact,” it stated in a statement.

The conflict has persisted since October 2023, when a group of Tesla mechanics initiated a strike, highlighting the tensions between Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s anti-union position and Sweden’s collective bargaining framework.

The strike is Sweden’s longest.

Tesla lacks manufacturing plants in Sweden; however, its electric cars are serviced by workers from the IF Metall union.
