CAF believes FIFA members should determine the future of Infantino during the 2027 election

CAF President Patrice Motsepe states that the future of Gianni Infantino should be determined by FIFA’s 211 member associations during the election next year.

Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe stated that the future of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who is currently under pressure, should be determined by the organization’s 211 member associations during the election next March.

Infantino, currently pursuing re-election, has encountered significant dissent as three confederations—UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF—criticized his actions and urged him to resign after his failed attempt to introduce private investment into FIFA competitions, including the World Cup.

Motsepe stated that the decision regarding Infantino’s presidency should rest with all FIFA members during the organization’s 77th Congress in Rabat, Morocco, on March 18.

Elections will be held next year. “We should permit that process to proceed and allow the 211 members to make their decision,” Motsepe stated to Sky News on Wednesday. If there are individuals interested in opposing him, please submit their names. That is the correct choice.

“My focus is on unity and cooperation.” How can we persist in advancing and enhancing football despite the challenges we face? We need to confront those challenges, find solutions, and progress forward.

Motsepe stated that leaders ought to welcome scrutiny while also highlighting that FIFA has established procedures to address complaints.

“If I, as a president, act in a way that does not uphold due process or governance, I should be open to interrogation and have those questions posed to me,” he stated.

“If anyone has a concern regarding someone, be it Gianni or anyone else, please adhere to the FIFA process.” And if you wish to remove him, participate in the elections. Just like that.

“Allow the 211 member associations to make the decision.” The vote will indicate their level of confidence in him. Everyone deserves equitable judgment and just treatment. Everyone deserves to have their voice acknowledged. “Due process, governance, and legality are essential and cannot be compromised.”

Motsepe confirmed that Infantino continues to have the support of CAF.

He has shown unwavering loyalty to African football. “He appreciates the backing of Africa,” he stated.
