Xpeng has initiated a recall of 33,473 X9 electric vehicles in China due to the discovery of suspension defects that may impact handling and activate safety alerts.
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng is recalling 33,473 X9 vehicles in China due to a potential safety defect in the front air suspension system, as stated in a release from the country’s market regulator on Friday.
The recall includes X9 vehicles produced from August 8, 2023, to August 11, 2025.
The regulator said that some of the affected vehicles might have a problem with the front air springs not being airtight, which could lead to a slow air leak after being used for a long time in hot and humid conditions.
As stated, the defect has the potential to activate malfunction warning alerts and, in severe instances, may impact the vehicle’s handling, thereby presenting a possible safety hazard.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology conducted inspections on Xpeng and Guangzhou Automobile Group’s electric vehicle unit, GAC Aion, on Friday. The purpose of these inspections was to evaluate the safety of their vehicles and to ensure consistency in their production processes.
