LeBron James has declared his intention to join the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year contract, opting against retirement and referring to this choice as the “last decision” of his NBA career.
The 41-year-old announced on social media on Friday that he believes he can help the 76ers become championship contenders after concluding his 23-season tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I am confident in my ability to contribute to the Philadelphia 76ers’ pursuit of a championship, and I am thrilled to engage a new fan base as we embark on this remarkable journey together one final time,” James expressed.
James disclosed that he gave serious thought to retiring after the 2025-26 season, acknowledging that he believed he had played his last NBA game before reigniting his passion for basketball.
“I was quite certain I had played my final game. I was candid at the last press conference when I mentioned that I needed to reflect on myself and determine if I still have a passion for this game,” he wrote. “I continue to have a deep affection for this game, and I possess even more to offer.”
ESPN reports that James is anticipated to sign a two-year contract valued at $8 million, marking a notable decrease from the nearly $53 million he earned last season.
