FIFA and Spain edited Donald Trump out of World Cup celebration photos, prompting the White House to release the original images.
FIFA and Spain excluded US President Donald Trump from their official social media images of Spain’s World Cup trophy celebrations. In response, the White House shared its own photos and video emphasizing his presence on the podium.
Trump awarded the medals and the World Cup trophy following Spain’s victory over Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the final. He stayed on stage while the Spanish players raised the trophy, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino led him away to allow the team to celebrate, with numerous photographs capturing Trump alongside the newly crowned champions.
Spain later shared edited images of the trophy lift with Trump excluded. According to The Mirror US, FIFA also released cropped versions of the celebration that omitted both Trump and Infantino.
The White House promptly reacted by sharing several images and an Instagram video depicting Trump celebrating alongside the Spanish players. Two of the photos centered exclusively on the US president.
It was the second occasion within a year that Trump had awarded a significant football trophy at the same stadium, having previously presented Chelsea with the Club World Cup trophy a year prior.
His prolonged presence on the podium captured the interest of broadcasters and commentators, while jeers echoed as he made his way onto the field ahead of the presentation ceremony. Despite the reception, several players from Spain seemed to relish the moment, with some engaging in the “Trump dance” while he stood beside them.
After the final, Trump expressed his admiration for the champions and the tournament.
Both of them performed admirably. I believe Spain performed better. It was incredibly thrilling. “It appeared that Spain had the upper hand, yet the match was quite competitive,” he remarked.
He also praised the tournament’s success, stating: “The World Cup is one of the greatest events of any kind.” We are truly pleased with its success. Individuals from various corners of the globe have visited and cherished our nation. We have presented our country in a new perspective, and it has been a wonderful achievement.
