Manchester United is nearing the completion of a deal for Tielemans
Manchester United is in advanced discussions to acquire Youri Tielemans, the Aston Villa midfielder.
United have focused on enhancing their midfield this summer, yet they have encountered setbacks after missing out on their top target, Elliot Anderson, who is set to join Manchester City, and Mateus Fernandes, who chose to transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham.
The Old Trafford outfit reached an agreement with Serie A club Atalanta for a £35m deal concerning Brazil World Cup star Ederson; however, that deal has been put on hold for now.
Chelsea’s Andrey Santos is reported to have completed his medical ahead of a £48m transfer, with additional signings expected soon.
United’s sole seasoned orthodox central midfielder is Kobbie Mainoo, who has yet to make an appearance in England’s World Cup campaign.
BBC Sport has reported that Tielemans’ contract with Villa includes a release clause, facilitating negotiations, and that a deal is nearing completion.
The 29-year-old has been on United’s radar for a considerable time and possesses a wealth of Premier League experience, which the club views as a significant advantage.
Tielemans played a crucial role in Belgium’s journey to the World Cup quarter-finals but had to withdraw from the 2-1 loss to Spain due to an injury sustained during the warm-up.
The Ederson deal is currently off.
Speculation regarding the Ederson transfer falling through has been circulating over the weekend following earlier reports that indicated an issue stemming from a knee injury.
The 27-year-old underwent a comprehensive medical examination following initial tests conducted in the United States that indicated a potential area of concern.
Ederson traveled to England for the necessary tests, which occurred following Brazil’s defeat by Norway in the last-16. Specialists were engaged, and as a result, United has decided to withdraw.
However, sources suggest that the transfer could be revived later in the summer, depending on how the window unfolds for United. Nonetheless, the club would not be willing to approve any move under the previously agreed terms.
Although club officials express sympathy for the player, they believe it is necessary to prioritize the best interests of United.
It is emphasized that the decision regarding Santos, whose arrival is expected to be announced early this week, was not prompted by the concerns surrounding Ederson.
