Trump Issues Warning to Iran: Assassination Attempt Will Lead to Total Annihilation
Trump cautions Iran of severe military consequences as Tehran dismisses assassination claims and affirms its commitment to diplomacy.
President Donald Trump of the United States has issued a stark warning that the US would “completely decimate” Iran should the Islamic Republic attempt or succeed in assassinating him. This statement significantly heightens tensions between Washington and Tehran, even amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts.
On Saturday, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the US military had been put on alert to execute a significant retaliatory strike against Iran in the event of any assassination attempt on him.
“1,000 missiles are locked and loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands more to follow immediately should the Iranian government act on its threat to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!” Trump wrote.
His remarks came despite his earlier agreement to continue negotiations with Iran, though he asserted that the ceasefire between both countries was essentially concluded.
Iran, on the other hand, dismissed Trump’s assertions, maintaining that it had upheld its commitment to the memorandum of understanding signed with Washington the previous month.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran has met its obligations under the agreement, while accusing the United States of breaching its commitments.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has thus far honored its commitments. “A reality check: mutual compliance is the only possibility,” Araghchi stated.
He contended that Washington had violated stipulations that mandated it refrain from imposing new sanctions or deploying additional forces in the region while negotiations were ongoing.
Diplomatic efforts have yielded minimal progress since the agreement was signed, with merely one round of direct talks taking place in Switzerland, in addition to indirect negotiations facilitated by Qatar.
The recent exchange of threats escalated this Saturday as Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, pledged retaliation for the death of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei, who was allegedly killed during US-Israeli strikes in late February.
In his initial public address following his rise to leadership, Khamenei asserted that retaliation was unavoidable.
He further stated, “Vengeance is the will of our nation and must inevitably be carried out. This issue is not contingent upon my personal existence or that of other officials. “It will come to pass, regardless of our presence.” happen
He also revealed that Iran had created a list of individuals it aimed to target, further intensifying worries about the worsening relationship between the two nations.
Amid the rising tensions, mediators such as Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan persist in their endeavors to rejuvenate negotiations and avert a resurgence of large-scale conflict.
