Iran’s Supreme Leader promises retribution for the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei promises retribution for the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as tensions surrounding the ceasefire escalate.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has pledged to seek retribution for the death of his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, asserting that revenge “must certainly” occur.
In his initial public statement following a week of funeral ceremonies for his father, Mojtaba Khamenei expressed that vengeance would encompass not just Iran, but also “free people around the world.”
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike on February 28 at the onset of the war.
“We vow to seek justice for the blood of our fallen leader and all the martyrs from these two wars against the criminal and dishonorable perpetrators,” the statement declared.
It stated: “Regardless of our presence, justice will be achieved, and shortly every free individual across the globe will play a role in this sacred mission.”
Mojtaba Khamenei has remained out of the public eye since his appointment as supreme leader on March 8. Senior sources have reported that he sustained facial disfigurement and other injuries as a result of the airstrike.
His ongoing absence has intensified uncertainty in Iran, with some citizens expressing that the country’s new leader should make a public appearance even if he is injured.
The most recent statement follows renewed interactions between US and Iranian forces, raising concerns about the ceasefire established to conclude the four-month conflict. Despite the recent fighting, US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that the two countries had reached an agreement to continue discussions.
Mojtaba Khamenei ascended to the position of supreme leader with the support of the Revolutionary Guards after the passing of his father, who governed Iran for 37 years and was interred at the nation’s most sacred shrine following a state funeral.
