151 Kenyans have been repatriated from South Africa due to rising tensions against migrants

The government has brought back 151 citizens from South Africa in response to rising anti-migrant tensions in the nation.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that 240 Kenyan nationals in need of assistance have registered with the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria.

Mudavadi stated that the high commission is presently offering temporary safe havens, which include hotel accommodations, food, and other essential relief supplies, as well as specialized support for vulnerable individuals.

The increase in aggressive actions can be regrettable. Kenya expresses assurance in the ongoing safeguarding of its citizens, as well as all individuals under the jurisdiction of South Africa,” he stated in a release issued in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

Mudavadi, during a telephone conversation with South Africa’s Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, observed that the majority of the estimated 27,000 Kenyans living in South Africa are making significant contributions to the prosperity of both nations.

“Kenya urges the South African government to persist in its support for the evacuation process, while ensuring the welfare and security of Kenyan nationals still in the country,” Mudavadi stated.

Kenya’s response reflects the recent initiatives taken by many African nations, which have initiated urgent repatriation campaigns to bring their citizens back from South Africa amid a significant surge of anti-immigrant unrest.
