Xi Commits to Strengthening Security Cooperation Between China and Cambodia
Xi has committed to a security partnership with Cambodia, emphasizing the importance of Cambodia’s sovereignty while enhancing strategic cooperation and jointly addressing online fraud.
During discussions in Beijing with Hun Sen, the president of Cambodia’s Senate, Xi emphasized the need for China and Cambodia to enhance their coordination in light of the increasing uncertainty in the regional and global landscape.
China’s state news agency Xinhua reported that Xi emphasized the importance of closer cooperation between the two countries in promoting stability, peace, and development throughout the region.
The Chinese leader reiterated Beijing’s enduring support for Cambodia, highlighting the nation as a central focus in China’s neighborhood diplomacy. He stated that China would persist in supporting Cambodia’s endeavors to protect its sovereignty, security, and national interests.
Xi stressed the importance of enhanced strategic trust between the two governments, urging both parties to elevate their political and security cooperation to a more advanced level.
During the meeting, Xi commended Cambodia’s efforts in combating telecom and online fraud, assuring that China would collaborate closely with Cambodian authorities to dismantle the criminal networks responsible for these activities.
Hun Sen is traveling to China from June 25 to June 27 for what Beijing has characterized as an official goodwill visit.
The recent discussions come after the first meeting of the China-Cambodia “2+2” Strategic Dialogue Mechanism in April, during which the foreign and defense ministers of both countries convened to enhance collaboration on political and security matters.
